It may not feel like the holiday season outside, but Alvin Reed of Hutchinson is having a holly jolly good time after claiming a $10,000 prize on the $20 Gifts of Gold holiday instant ticket from the Kansas Lottery! 

“I like to play the scratch games during the week,” Reed said. “Until now, the most I had ever won was $500, so I was pretty surprised when I scratched off the ticket and saw all the winning boxes.” 

Reed purchased only one $20 Gifts of Gold ticket and took it to his work, where he would scratch it off with his coworkers around over a break. 

“My coworkers will sometimes make fun of me for playing the Lottery, and they were all gathered around watching me when I played the ticket,” Reed said with a laugh. “The first box I scratched off showed a $500 winner, so I was already excited. Then we found another, and then another, until it all added up to $10,000!” 

Reed said he immediately called his wife at home to tell her what he had won. “She didn’t believe me at first, but I texted her a picture to prove it,” Reed added. “When I got home with the ticket, we put it in a safe place and made plans to come to Topeka.” 

The holiday season is getting busier for the Reed family, as they are currently helping plan their son’s wedding which is coming up. “I figure we will help out some with the wedding and pay off some debt,” Reed said. “However, there has been discussion about getting a hot tub one day, so this could move us closer to that as well!” 

The winning ticket was sold at Kwik Shop 725 at 1401 East 4^th Avenue in Hutchinson. There are still three $100,000 top prizes, seven $10,000 prizes, and thousands in other cash prizes still available in the $20 Gifts of Gold instant scratch ticket.
