It was a gloomy start to the week around the Kansas Lottery office following a disappointing NFL Championship game. However, spirits were lifted when Mark Sullivan of Lenexa walked through the door with a $75,000 top prize on the $10 Back-to-Back World Champions Kansas City Chiefs instant ticket! 

“We were having a Super Bowl party, and I needed to run to the store for a few more things,” recalls Sullivan. “When I was checking out, I saw the Lottery machine, and I decided it would be fun to get some scratch tickets for the party to play during the game.” 

Sullivan purchased $100 in $1 and $2 tickets for the party, but then he treated himself to four $10 Kansas City Chiefs instant tickets. After everything was ready for the party, Sullivan decided to rest and scratch his tickets. That is when he found the $75,000 winning symbol. 

“I ran to show my wife the ticket, and we both were in disbelief, so we went back to the store to check it,” said Sullivan. “When the clerk handed us the ticket back with a claim form, we realized it might possibly be real!” 

When the game started to not go the Chiefs’ way, Sullivan says his guests jokingly blamed him for the team’s struggles. “They said ‘You used up all the Chiefs good luck” Sullivan says with a laugh. “It definitely gave us whiplash to have a big Chiefs win for us and then the game play out the way it did all in the same day.” 

The winner says they are not sure what to do with the winnings yet. “We have a lot to think about. This is a big win,” Sullivan added. “I’m sure we will work on the house some and probably take a trip somewhere, but we have a lot to discuss.” 

The winning ticket was sold at Hy-Vee 1532 at 7620 State Line Road in Prairie Village. There is still one top prize, as well as thousands in other cash prizes left in the $10 Kansas City Chiefs Back-to-Back World Champions instant ticket.
